The Issue

I am a nurse in Kentucky, and I am deeply concerned about the deteriorating conditions surrounding staffing and safety protocols in our healthcare facilities. Despite ongoing efforts to advocate for better patient safety, the issues seem to persist, if not worsen. We are often faced with hazardous situations such as name alerts on the same teams, managing eight high-acuity patients per team, and an alarming number of near misses. We do not get the necessary breaks, and we lack sufficient staff. Additionally, management appears unresponsive, contributing to high turnover rates and a lack of policy support from HR to protect nurses on the floor.

A nursing union in Kentucky could be the transformative change we desperately need. By forming a union, we can collectively advocate for safer staffing policies that not only protect patients but also ensure the well-being of nurses. Unions provide a platform to demand fair treatment, safe working conditions, and a supportive environment throughout our employment. Safe staffing levels are crucial to delivering high-quality care and preventing burnout among healthcare workers.

The decline in conditions not only endangers patients but also threatens the mental and physical health of nurses, many of whom are forced to leave their positions due to unsustainable working environments. The need for a supportive network to address these issues is urgent. By uniting under a common cause, we can bring our concerns to the forefront and demand the changes necessary to safeguard our profession and the lives we care for daily.

Join me in establishing a nursing union in Kentucky to fight for safer policies, advocate for adequate staffing, and create a supportive community for all nurses. Sign this petition and help us move towards a healthier and more equitable healthcare system for everyone involved.
