My heart sinks each time I pass by our bus stop benches and see them being used as makeshift beds in the freezing cold. Tents line our parks and sidewalks, housing those who should have access to warm shelter and a safer environment. This is more than just an issue; it is a tragedy in our beloved community.

The lack of sufficient homeless shelters in our area has resulted in a rising homeless population that is forced to try to survive unthinkable conditions. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, over half a million individuals are homeless on a single night in the United States, with a significant portion of that number unable to find shelter due to lack of availability.

Our community needs to address this directly and humanely by establishing a new homeless shelter. The construction of even one additional shelter can provide hundreds of people with warmth and safety each year; it could literally save lives.

I am making this petition in solidarity with the less fortunate among us, in the hope that we can extend our compassion to all residents of our community.
