The Issue

In recent years, the increasing temperatures have become a major concern for the wellbeing of students. The sweltering heat not only makes it impossible to concentrate but also poses serious health risks such as heat exhaustion, dehydration, and fainting, particularly impacting teenage girls.

Schools are meant to be a safe environment where children can learn and grow. However, when classrooms turn into ovens, it becomes nearly impossible for students to focus on their studies. The lack of adequate air conditioning and the unsuitable, compulsory uniform worsens the problem, leaving both students and teachers  suffering alike.

In the UK, there is currently no maximum temperature a school can remain open at but only a minimum temperature. This may have been appropriate before, but with global warming the temperatures are only increasing. By setting a maximum temperature limit for school attendance, we can help safeguard children's health and ensure that education remains a priority without compromising on wellbeing.

We urge the Department for Education to implement a policy mandating that schools must send students  home if it becomes excessively hot e.g. 35°C+

Please join me in calling for a sensible and necessary change in our education system for our children's future. Sign this petition to urge policymakers to establish a maximum heat limit for school attendance in the UK and put our children first.
