Growing up in Maui County, I've witnessed a gap in civic engagement opportunities for young people like myself. While the decisions made by our county officials shape our community's future, there is a lack of formal structures enabling youth to actively participate in the governing processes alongside adults. For instance, in San Francisco, the Youth Commission has led to policies enhancing youth services and city planning considerations for young citizens. We can bring similar successes to Maui by leveraging the voices and talents of our own young leaders.
