Establish a Funded Animal Shelter for Warren and Washington Counties

Establish a Funded Animal Shelter for Warren and Washington Counties
The Issue
As a practicing veterinarian with 22 years of service to Warren and Washington counties, I've witnessed and been deeply angered by the community's inability to properly protect our animals. Over the years, our counties have frequently neglected their duty to support the welfare of our animals, often using claims of poverty as an excuse for inaction. This ongoing neglect has been disheartening, especially as local law enforcement frequently express their frustration at being unable to do their jobs effectively due to the lack of a proper shelter for abused animals.
Our community is plagued by ongoing abuse cases involving large animals, dogs, and cats. Despite the serious nature of these cases, there is an evident lack of resources allocated towards building a proper facility where these animals can be housed and cared for while they await justice. Law enforcement, tasked with protecting these animals, finds its efforts stymied by the absence of a secure and equipped environment to do so.
Each day, as veterinarians like myself work tirelessly on these cases, we are met with the discouraging reality that county prosecutors are often lenient when it comes to animal cruelty cases. This inaction leads to a cycle where abusers are not held accountable and animals continue to suffer. A shared, well-funded animal shelter would not only safeguard these abused animals but also empower law enforcement to execute their duties more effectively.
On numerous occasions, I have donated my time and resources, yet restitution remains elusive. It is time for our counties to take responsibility and allocate necessary funds towards the establishment of a shared animal shelter. This facility would be instrumental in ensuring the safety and welfare of abused animals and would provide our law enforcement with the necessary resources to act against cruelty efficiently.
I urge the bureaucrats and decision-makers to prioritize the safety and protection of our community's animals. By signing this petition, you advocate for the establishment of a funded animal shelter, a vital step towards justice and humane treatment for all animals in Warren and Washington counties. Let’s come together to make a real difference for those who can't speak for themselves. Sign this petition to support a future where our counties no longer turn a blind eye to the needs of their animals.
