Establish a Fenced Off-Leash Dog Park in Mount Pleasant

Establish a Fenced Off-Leash Dog Park in Mount Pleasant
The Issue
As a resident of Mount Pleasant, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by dog owners in our community. Our neighborhood has been identified by the People, Parks, and Dogs Strategy report as an underserved area with limited access to off-leash areas. This study was based on the number of licensed dogs in the area, residential population density, and projected population growth.
Our community is home to numerous dog-friendly high-density residences that have been constructed recently with more on the horizon. This means that our canine population is set to increase significantly in the near future, further exacerbating this issue.
Many residents are already using the field grounds at Tupper Secondary as an off-leash area due to the lack of availability of safe and accessible alternatives. Establishing a fenced off-leash dog park in Mount Pleasant would not only address this pressing need but also contribute positively towards enhancing our community's quality of life. It would provide a safe space for dogs to exercise and socialize freely while reducing potential conflicts between dogs and other park users.
We urge city officials and relevant stakeholders to consider this proposal seriously for the benefit of all residents - both two-legged and four-legged - living in the Mount Pleasant area. Please sign this petition if you support creating an off-leash dog park in our neighbourhood. With this petition I hope to demonstrate that there is strong support from the residents of this neighbourhood and that there is a demonstrated need for the Parks Board to consider a formal proposal.
