Establish a drug court in Henderson County, Texas
The Issue
Petition to Establish a Drug Court in Henderson County, Texas
We, the undersigned residents, faith leaders, professionals, and concerned citizens of Henderson County, respectfully petition our local government and judicial authorities to establish a dedicated Drug Court in our county.
Why Henderson County Needs a Drug Court
Henderson County faces a growing crisis of substance abuse and drug-related crime. According to recent data, our county ranks below average in safety. It receives a D grade for drug-related crime, placing it in the bottom 21% of U.S. counties for public safety. Yet, we lack a Drug Court—a proven, compassionate alternative to incarceration for individuals struggling with addiction.
A Drug Court will:
• Provide structured, court-supervised treatment for nonviolent offenders
• Reduce jail overcrowding and taxpayer burden
• Support rehabilitation over punishment
• Strengthen families and reduce generational cycles of addiction
• Partner with local recovery programs like Padre’s Place to offer holistic care
Our Request:
We Urge Our County Leaders To:
• Prioritize the creation of a Drug Court in upcoming budget and planning discussions
• Collaborate with recovery organizations, legal professionals, and community advocates
• Seek state and federal funding to support implementation and sustainability
Funding Availability:
With federal funding sustained through the FY2026 DOJ Drug Court Grant Program, Henderson County has a timely opportunity to launch a court that meets urgent community needs.
Together, we can build a justice system that heals, restores, and uplifts our community.
