With rising concerns about health standards and second-hand exposure to cigarette smoke, I can understand the restrictions Lambton College has enforced regarding the campus limits for smoking. However, we should consider the rights and needs of the people who smoke. For this reason, it is imperative that we establish a designated smoking area on campus. A study published in the Journal of American College Health showed that designated smoking areas can significantly decrease second-hand smoke exposure, and hence, benefit non-smokers without infringing on the rights of smokers. 

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a balanced approach that respects everyone's right to clean air while also considering the needs of individuals who smoke, as well as encouraging campus cleanliness by reducing litter.

Alongside this petition, a proposal will be submitted to the facilities director at Lambton College. The proposal will highlight four main categories: 

1. Minimize Second-Hand Smoke Exposure: Protect non-smokers from involuntary exposure to smoke.
2. Maintain Campus Cleanliness: Contain litter, such as cigarette butts, within a controlled area.
3. Create A Welcoming Campus Atmosphere: Respect the needs of both smokers and non-smokers while promoting public health
4. Remain Inclusive: Ensure that those with nicotine addictions feel included and not discriminated against based on their addiction.
