Establish a Child's Right to Speak Out Against Domestic Abuse

Establish a Child's Right to Speak Out Against Domestic Abuse
The Issue
This petition is born out of the personal struggle of Alayjah, a brave young girl from Springfield, OH, who has experienced physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her father. Alayjah courageously spoke out against this abuse and is now seeking a protection order to ensure her safety for the next 3-5 years.
Unfortunately, Alayjah's story isn't unique. Many children across America suffer in silence due to domestic abuse. According to the National Children’s Alliance, nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S annually (2016). This highlights an urgent need for platforms where children can voice their experiences and seek help.
We are advocating for legal provisions that empower children like Alayjah to speak up against their abusers without fear of reprisal or disbelief. We believe that every child should have access to mechanisms that protect them from physical harm and psychological manipulation within their own homes.
By signing this petition, you're supporting not just Alayjah but all children who have been victims of domestic abuse. You're standing up for their right to be heard and protected by law enforcement agencies and judicial systems alike.
No child including Alayjah should be forced to testify in the same room with their abuser let alone feet infront of them. No child including Alayjah should have to be in the same waiting area with her abuser and their family, friends, and or support system where they can speak to the child, intimidate the child, antagonize the child, and or threaten the child.
Children should have legal representation and an advocate to help them understand their rights and the laws. Children should have the option to give private testimony in the chambers with a judge or magistrate or telecommunication options so they don’t have to be present with their abusers.
Please sign this petition today - let's make sure our kids' voices are heard loud and clear when they speak out against abuse!
