Establish a Break Room for Connelly Center Staff

The Issue

As members of the Villanova community, we deeply value the principles of Caritas and Unitas. We believe in unity and love, not just in words but also in actions. Our school staff, especially those working tirelessly at the Connelly Center, are an integral part of our community. They provide us with food and comfort every day, contributing significantly to our overall well-being on campus.

However, it has come to our attention that these hardworking individuals do not have a dedicated space where they can take their breaks. Currently, they are left with no choice but to eat their lunches alongside students or find some corner where they can catch a moment's respite from their busy schedules. This is far from ideal as it does not allow them the peace and quiet they deserve during their break times.

Moreover, without a proper break room equipped with basic amenities like a refrigerator for storing food items during shifts - something most workplaces consider standard - our staff members face unnecessary inconvenience.

We have reached out to the school administration and have been met with either silence or excuses! Of the 4 emails that we sent to Father Peter Donahue, he has responded to 1 in which he answered none of our questions, nor did he address our request for a meeting to discuss the issue. We understand that this project will require some undertaking, but we believe that it is in the interest of our school values to do so.

We firmly believe that providing employees with suitable facilities for rest is not only an act of kindness but also contributes to increased productivity and job satisfaction (source: American Psychological Association). Therefore we call upon Villanova University to establish a dedicated break room for employees at the Connelly Center.

By signing this petition you are advocating for better working conditions for these essential members of our community – because everyone deserves respect and care in their workplace. A problem for employees ought to be a problem for all of us! That's what community means. Please sign this petition today!
