Establish a 99 Ranch Market in the Former Stater Brothers Location in Walnut, CA

Establish a 99 Ranch Market in the Former Stater Brothers Location in Walnut, CA
The Issue
As a student at Mt. San Antonio College living in the apartments with no car or bike at my disposal, I find it remarkably inconvenient to leave the city of Walnut for basic grocery shopping at Asian grocery stores. Despite Walnut's significant Asian community, there seems to be a staggering lack of such grocery stores. It's strange, seeing as there are such stores aplenty in neighboring cities like Diamond Bar, West Covina, and others. But why not ours? Moreover, a grocery store is essential for Mtsac students, who can't always rely on convenience stores like 7/11 for all their needs.
Opening a 99 Ranch market at the previous location of Stater Brothers on Amar Rd and Grand Ave could solve this problem. 99 Ranch is a well recognized and established Asian American supermarket chain known for their variety and reasonably priced items. It would not only serve us students, but it would also benefit the broader community of Walnut. In fact, considering that nearly half of Walnut's population is Asian American according to Census Bureau estimates, the store's potential customer base is substantial. This is not just about convenience; this is about serving a community's needs sensibly and efficiently.
I deeply urge the city council, landlord, and 99 Ranch Market management to consider this proposal. It's a win for the residents, a win for students, and ultimately, a win for the city's economy. Please show your support by signing this petition, voice the need of an Asian grocery store within our city, and help make the city of Walnut a more inclusive, diverse, and convenient place to live.
