Supporters of the Essex Police Mounted Unit are asking the public to join forces with them in a bid to overturn the decision to disband the Essex Police Mounted Unit.

The Essex Police Mounted Unit, made up of 8 police officers, 1 Sergeant, 2 police staff and 8 horses was brought back in 2008 with the significant investment in new facilities at its Writtle base. The unit plays a significant role including crowd control, public order, open country searches and neighbourhood policing. It also supports the force efforts to reduce crime and disorder through high visibility patrols and assisting in the arrest of offenders. They're also a pretty popular attraction at some of the county's biggest events and attract significant interaction from the general public wherever they go.
