Hazard pay for In N Out Associates
The Issue
Hi how are you!?
In N Out associates goto work everyday with a smile. That’s what the company is know for and well, fast food is “essential”. This is to tell you how the company is protecting it’s workers and why they deserve more. The company replenished sick hours so if associates are sick they can stay home, but if your not you need to be at work. There is a prescreening survey before work just asking if you’ve had a fever or cough, not very serious. However it’s been proven that someone can hold the virus without any symptoms for 14 days.
Associates don’t practice social distancing with each other in the kitchen and with the guests. The closest it’s gotten to a change is that guest now have to put their own card into the chip readers and the dining room is closed. But associates still except cash (which has been proven to pass on the virus) with our bare hands. Associates also pass out food to the customers with their bare hands risking touching another person possibly carrying the virus. Our amazing Health care workers wouldn’t even do that without gloves on. Goes to show associates are “at risk”. Matter of fact an associate in Arizona contracted the virus. However, Associates are just told to wash your hands every time you come into contact with a person and money. Which isn’t always possible do to the fast paced environment your in. But when it happens it is also drying out your hands and causing irritation.
Furthermore, HR and other corporate associates of the company are working from home. Restaurant associates don’t get that option. Instead they work side by side next to each other and are risking catching the virus from each other or from the guests. Other amazing company’s have already moved forward in terms of protecting their associates by allowing the wearing of gloves, social distancing, pre work screenings, and paying higher wages during this difficult time. Meanwhile In N Out is not allowing any of this because “the cdc hasn’t made it mandatory”. Therefore it only seems fare to pay associates higher wages whom are the ones out their working to feed family’s during this difficult time.
