i am making this petition to get the Escabana & Lake Superior Railroad and Carol Gatiss, mayor of Munising, Michigan, to bring out of storage and restore Delaware & Hudson (D&H) RF-16 class or "sharknose" diesels numbers 1205 & 1216. The engines have been kept in Munising since 1988, and are rusting and wearing away rapidly and may be scrapped before we know it. I propose that 1205 and 1216 be cleaned up and displayed in the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railway museum in Baltimore, Maryland. I would like to see 1205 & 1216 restored because railfans like me love trains, plus there are no RF-16 class diesels in museums or on display anywhere in the Unites States at the moment. I am sure railfans would like to see 1205 & 1216 run again. it would make me very upset to see 1205 & 1216 gone, because they have a lot of history, and i'm all about preserving history. The engines have parts missing and various mechanical issues, so a full restoration is out of reach for now, but i feel the B&O museum would be a good place to keep the engines because the B&O knows how to take care of engines like 1205 & 1216. i think letting visitors see the engines would be a learning experience for younger people, and a trip down memory lane for older people, i'd like for people to be able to to cab tours or see the massive 1,600 HP engine. together we could gain financial support to get 1205 & 1216 out of storage and back to the public, plus they're not doing any good sitting in a shed in michigan anyway, so for railfans everywhere, let's bring back D&H 1205 & 1216.
