The Issue

My mother is currently bleeding on and off in Sierra Leone (SL)  and SL does not have a colonoscopy machine for diagnosing where the bright red blood is coming from internally.

I am one of the best nurses in the World. My saying to my patients is that they are the doctor and  surgeon of their body, and that exercise is the best medicine. I am a Critical care and Recovery room Nurse in USA.

Our politicians continue to fall behind miserably. My mother strongly believes in her doctors and their care, as she should. I talked with one of her doctor who confirmed that the whole country do not have an endoscope and a colonoscopy machine. That is why she is treating her for ulcers.

He will treat my mother’s hypovolemic with IV fluids and low hemoglobin with blood transfusions.

I blame our politician for not making provisions for their citizens.

My mother is every one’s mother. She is not worried about her condition but i am, because I am taught to fix the problem and  not the signs and symptoms. I am an advocate for my patients. My mother is  fortunate to have a child who is educated and can write letters like this to networks looking for help.

I am writing today about the thousands who are dying in pain from not knowing what is wrong in them. What do the future hold for the citizens.

Today, I am asking you to turn your cameras to this world health issue in SL. People are dying slow death and it is evil for a country with Diamond and Gold buried  under their soil to not have electricity, clean water to drink Sierra Leoneans lives by PLASTIC bottle water for sale  and Boiling their water. Added to it lack of  medical screening machines.WHY?

I choose nursing because this is the best career in the world, caring for each other.  I do not want to feel like this is the end of my mother's story. My generation is hungry for change. I strongly believe this is unfair and my story needs to be shared before it is too late for my mother and all the others mothers of Sierra Leone with similar issues. Having a colonoscopy machine in the public hospital is the citizen rights.

Thank you very much; I know i will be able to thank you with a hug one day.
