We are calling on Governor Holcomb and our state representatives to immediately implement a rent freeze for all residents renting in Indiana for the entire duration of the coronavirus crisis. Thousands are out of work due to the governor’s (albeit correct) decision to close bars and restaurant, and thousands more are out of work apart from that. It is unjust and immoral to expect Indiana residents to continue paying rent while most if not all of their income has been pulled out from under them. Many in this state and all over the country are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to make ends meet as it is. This crisis will not only jeopardize their lives, but the lives of everyone around them. Many are being forced to work despite urges to stay home simply because their home depends on them making rent every month. It is vitally imperative that we implement an immediate rent freeze NOW for the safety of our communities and our state.
