Elvis Summers Must Wear a Bulletproof Vest?!

Rose WebsterMilton, Canada

May 20, 2016
A year ago, Elvis Summers took it upon himself to build a Tiny Home for a homeless woman in his neighborhood. Now, he must wear a bulletproof vest because of threats made on his life.
A bulletproof vest . . because he helps shelter homeless people.
Why? Because he showed the world that without millions of dollars that temporary shelters can be made immediately that provide a bridge between the gutter and permanent housing.
Please watch this must-see interview (published May 7th, 2016) of Elvis Summers by Dean Ryan on Truth Be Told with Tony and Eddie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69uC3h08Mx0&feature=youtu.be
And consider this:
In Africa and other third world countries, special interest groups (such as Saving San Pedro or Saving San Pedro Homeless Enablers) do not enlist law enforcement and politicians to cite/arrest people for eating, sleeping, or tear down their mud huts.
They do not have people (like Joanne Rallo, Miss Plus Top Model 2014) seize their belongings and throw them in the trash. For more: http://roserightswrongs.blogspot.ca/2016/04/live-report-of-hearing-against-la-city.html
In fact, architects and inventors (like Arturo Vittori) are applauded and awarded for their life-saving creations: http://www.environment911.org/Warka_Water_Invention_Solves_a_Water_Crisis_by_Harnessing_Nature
Elvis Summers should be revered by every citizen (rich, middle class, and poor). Thankfully, our tireless activist, Meilyn Portillo, nominated Elvis Summers for the Good Neighbor Award: https://www.neighborhoodawards.com/awardshow/good-neighbor-award
Voting takes place from June 1st until June 15th, 2016 (weekdays) – mark your calendars. During that time, you can vote for the top individuals, schools, or businesses in each category. Votes are limited to one per day.
And tomorrow (May 21st, 2016) at 7:30 pm PDT is the Tiny Homes for the Homeless Fundraiser hosted by Dean Ryan, Elvis Summers, and Judd Weiss: https://www.facebook.com/events/1136638266393932
Plus, yesterday I received more fabulous news. Elvis Summers posted this message publicly:
"I have acquired three separate locations to begin building Tiny House Villages, and the orders for Tiny Houses are piling up, So I need to raise funds to start building!"
Please make a $5 donation: http://www.mythpla.org/donate.html
I asked Elvis for more details about the three sites and he told me, "I can't give any more info at this time, but believe me I will ASAP! Hopefully I can announce at least one of them next Wednesday."
What's more, Elvis is selling T-shirts and 100% of the proceeds go directly to helping us provide Emergency Tiny House Shelters: https://teespring.com/the-little-house-that-could1

Elsewhere, in the city of Portland, a homeless camp is being built without any official permission—on public land. Advocacy 5's president and CEO Lisa Lake wrote:
"We are treating this as an emergency [domestic violence] shelter in order to protect women from ongoing assaults. Is there anyone among us who does not want to keep these women safe?"
I applaud their message: "We cannot, as an agency of conscience that sees this population almost daily, wait anymore for the City of Portland to take action."
We know homeless people are targeted for violent and sexual crimes. In fact, one in four hate crimes committed against a homeless person results in their death.
Shockingly, the FBI does not currently recognize homelessness as a protected class when determining hate crime statistics. If it did, it would find that more violent hate crimes are committed against homeless people than any other groups. Source: http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/06/27/3453846/homeless-hate-crimes-up
Who is at fault for a large portion of LA's homeless population?
Developers who purchase apartment buildings regulated under Los Angeles' rent stabilization ordinance that evict tenants [for a gentrification project] and the City's Planning Department which approves the developers' applications even though they violate zoning and planning laws. Lastly, I leave you with another excellent video called "Housing is a human right: Sczerina Perot at TEDxASL" which was published on Oct 25th, 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idJqpWbOPJk
Sczerina Perot is a public interest lawyer who uses advocacy, litigation, and coalition building to change systems that trap people in homelessness and poverty.
Remember:
"No state shall convert a liberty into a license, and charge a fee therefore.” (Murdock v. Pennsylvania, 319 U.S. 105)
“If the State converts a right (liberty) into a privilege, the citizen can ignore the license and fee and engage in the right (liberty) with impunity.” (Shuttlesworth v. City of Birmingham, Alabama, 373 U.S. 262)
As Howard Epstein and Greta always remind me, we are united and we are being heard.
Stay strong and I'll keep you posted,
Rose
