Petition updateWe Demand a Moratorium on Development and on Vagrancy Laws
ALL 37 TINY HOMES FIT IN ONE ROW ON VA PROPERTY PARKING LOT

It's Mother's Day and I'm enraged. I wasn't going to post an update today but I can't hold it in any longer.
Since Friday morning, news sources inaccurately reported the return of the Tiny Homes. I did my best to correct them, but public perception is probably already skewed.
A few news sources (which I won't name) reported the Tiny Homes were returned to the "occupants" and one even put in their title they can "now help the homeless once again."
FACT: They can't help the homeless and not all of the Tiny Homes were returned either. Plus, the ones they did return were damaged and had their solar control boxes missing.
Imagine that!
Elvis Summers was able to deliver and/or pick up 37 Tiny Homes without ANY damage done to them. They were helping homeless people for months. BUT, when the city of LA confiscates them, they get damaged, one "goes missing" and the solar control boxes are gone.
Elvis confirmed: "All but one of the tiny houses the city illegally confiscated have been returned! Smokie's house is MIA and will be looked for by the department of sanitation. All of the wheels on the houses were damaged, some of the siding frames are damaged and all of the Solar Battery Control Boxes are missing from the houses."
Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation spokesperson Elena Stern stated, "If they are put out on LA City public sidewalks or streets they will be tagged and removed again."
Charming!
And Talk About Breaking the Law . . .
In this LA Times Readers React piece: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/readersreact/la-le-0506-friday-homeless-housing-20160506-story.html
I left the following comment:
"VA property was deeded to the U.S. in 1888 for the specific purpose of providing a home for disabled veterans. On Aug 29th, 2013 (almost 3 years ago) Federal Judge Otero ruled that the Department of Veterans Affairs violated federal law when it leased out portions of its West L.A. campus to 11 businesses and organizations.
Elvis Summers already has suggested putting his Tiny Homes (which are on wheels) on VA property to provide an interim solution until permanent housing can be built. Sadly, the City of LA (in their bid for the 2024 Olympics) are offering UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium as a venue instead.
Also, five area jails have been closed "due to staffing issues" and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck says it will take "up to three years" for them to be re-opened. This released thousands of prisoners early from jail and Proposition 47 downgraded many drug possession and theft crimes from felonies to misdemeanors.
The homeless are being unfairly "lumped in" with criminals released from jail too early.
Leslie Evans of the Southwest LAPD Community Police Advisory Board pointed out: "The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is asking for $120 billion, 65 times more than the supposedly unreachable budget to tackle homeless housing ... maybe the MTA project should be scaled back a little — one or two 64ths? — to help solve a genuine humanitarian crisis."
On Change(dot)org, I have a petition titled "We Demand a Moratorium on Development and on Vagrancy Laws" to help.
Thank you LA Times for publishing these letters to the editor."
Well, today I thought I'd go on Google Maps and look at the earth view of Jackie Robinson Stadium. And lo and behold, there is a parking space (practically empty) that measures over 400 feet across.
I did some rough calculations and all 37 Tiny Homes will fit in one row with about 5 or 6 feet between them.
THERE ARE NO EXCUSES!
Jackie Robinson Stadium was illegally built on VA property. And now, if one more homeless person is injured, robbed, raped or dies, I BLAME THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES.
Please sign and share this petition with everyone. This is humanitarian crisis. Consider just these three statistics:
1) One in four homeless people die from violent hate crimes.
2) Homeless people die, on average, 30 years before the rest of us who have homes.
3) Almost half the U.S. population is living at (or below) the poverty level. Any one of us can be homeless (except for the 1 percent).
The only reason that I can see for the mayor wanting to offset helping the homeless by 10 years (and that is what his current plans will take) is so that more homeless souls are dead.
Harsh?
Think about it: It costs a LESS to house the homeless than leaving them on the streets. But (and no one wants to mention this), if they die, it saves the City of LA even more money.
Horrible, inhumane, criminal.
Step down mayor Garcetti et al. Your intentions have been exposed to the world now.
And should you win the 2024 Olympics, you can bet that any homeless veterans will be photographed and filmed extensively to show the world that you do not care.
You do not care if these people die.
SHAME ON YOU!!!
And now, we need to step up, all of us from around the world and make sure this wrong is made right.
Thank you for reading this petition update in full. And please sign and share this petition as far and wide as you can. Lives depend on it.
Happy Mother's Day,
Rose
