Pierce O'Mahony was a great Irish man (politician, businessman, agriculturalist, and philanthropist) who fought in Ireland for equality. But he also did something extraordinary for Bulgaria! After hearing about that vast number of children become orphans in Bulgaria after Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising, Pierce O'Mahony opened first orphanage in Sofia City sponsored by his own money. He adopted more than 30 children, some of them he brought to Ireland and gave a great start in life.
