Sir David Attenborough has been a giant in helping to highlight the perils facing the natural world, and particularly the devastating effect climate change and industrialisation can have on the amazing diversity of animal life we have on our planet.

Almost everyone in Britain has watched a television series where Sir David has introduced us to the most wonderful birds, animals, insects and reptiles that we are privileged to share our home with and no one has done more to alert us to the fragile and uncertain future they face if we, the custodians of this planet, do not address this fragility and threat to their survival very urgently.

Is Sir David not the very essence of  Britain's desire to make a difference to the world we live in and should we not recognise this by erecting a statue of this wonderful man, ideally as a permanent occupant of the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square but, alternatively, outside the London Natural History Museum or some other prominent place where he can get full recognition for all he has done to raise awareness of the terrible legacy we humans are likely to leave.
