Eradicate Water Scarcity in San Jose, California

Eradicate Water Scarcity in San Jose, California
The Issue
As a college student at San Jose State University, I deeply care about the well-being of my community. The issue of water scarcity in San Jose, California, is hitting us hard and demanding immediate action.
Excessive water consumption, severe drought, and unsustainable groundwater pumping have put our city under immense stress. Safe drinking water, a basic human necessity, is becoming increasingly inaccessible, and, in some areas it is vanishing entirely. This isn't just a problem for the residents of San Jose, but it is also a major threat to our natural world.
According to a report by the Public Policy Institute of California, San Jose is one of the areas most affected by drought in recent years. This has only exacerbated water scarcity and placed unhealthy strains on our groundwater supplies. Moreover, our city's increased demand due to population growth has further escalated the problem, as it is significantly overwhelming the natural replenishment of our water sources.
We cannot stand by as our water resources deplete at an alarming rate. Our city needs to invest in sustainable water conservation resources and push for stricter conservation policies. To combat this, I have reached out to the mayor, Matt Mahan, to make a change for the better. Signing this petition will help fuel the spark for change and bring attention to the matter.
Please refer to my research brief for further information on the scarcity of water, what human rights this issue infringes on, as well as my plan for action.
