Superfund sites, or toxic waste sites, are places marked by the EPA which a large amount of toxic waste has spilled. Factories which can cause these waste spills are often stuck in places deemed "sacrifice zones" owing to their being an unfairly unvalued area (infuenced by socio-economic factors); lower-income neighborhoods are often more affected by these superfunds. Toxic waste causes a plethora of health issues, including cancer and birth defects, and unfortunately, there are a whopping 3 in the zip code 60608.
