I stand here, moved by my personal experience, an observer of the harsh reality experienced by many unique individuals within our schoolyards. These are places of learning and growth, where all should feel safe and welcomed. Yet, they are the grounds of intimidation, prejudice and isolation. Many stand victim to relentless mockery simply because they dare to express themselves. Their anomalous clothing, unique modes of self-expression, straying from the 'norm', become unjust targets of ridicule.

In my shoes, you see the torment of pupils being bullied for their distinctive selves. Beyond the physical walls of our schools, this issue extends. Bullying affects millions globally. According to the World Health Organization, a tragically significant number of adolescents consider suicide due to bullying (WHO, 2020). This showcases the profound and devastating impact bullying has not only on mental and emotional wellbeing, but on lives lost.

It's time we pivot from this grim reality, herald the very individuality that makes us human, and banish bullying once and for all. We, hence, urge our local school boards, policy-makers, parents and society at large to initiate necessary steps towards ending bullying and nurturing an environment where individuality is celebrated, not ostracized.
