Equilty for disabled children and childcare options

The issue

We, as parents of a special-needs children, have been facing an ongoing struggle. For years, we have been paying out of pocket AUD 300-450 a day for private care for our kids for private Nannie’s and carers with no rebate. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has not provided us any funding for support care. We are still waiting for a plan review. Like us, many families in Australia are in the same situation, falling through the gaps siting plan reviews or getting knocked back with “reasonable and necessary claims”  The lack of widely accessible and alignment with equality rights for out-of-school care programs such as Oshclub and holiday programs, specifically tailored for disabled children, has thrust many families into financial and emotional distress. There has been a constant shortfall of inclusivity and trained carers for these children, like our son, prohibiting their enrollment in such programs. Saying they have no places cause they don’t have places or no carers trained or an inclusive therapist “right now”.
We need the government to take action. This is a call to the Australian government, taxing our incomes, to subsidize and ensure adequate and tailored childcare for disabled children, much like other taxpayer funded out-of-school programs. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there are nearly 200,000 children with disabilities in the country. Hence, no child or parent should feel isolated or unsupported. The government, working in unison with Oshclub and similar programs, needs to ensure the provision of trained inclusion carers and make these programs widely available to all children in Perth, Western Australia and beyond. Why our we paying for others to be funded but then again for our kids to be looked after 💯 funded by our taxed dollar 💵
Please, stand with us and sign this petition urging the government to make childcare accessible and affordable for disabled children. Let us promote equality in access to care facilities for every child. Not just everyone else’s child our lives our hard enough but your making us pay for yours and ours too !
