Equalize Pay Across Tesco and Its Subsidiary, One Stop

The Issue

As a long-time employee of One Stop, I find it crucial to address the pay disparity between us and our parent company, Tesco. One Stop is owned by Tesco, therefore, the wage levels should reflect this relationship but sadly, they do not. With years of service, the difference in our pay scale is not justified, nor is it fair. This plea is not only for myself but for all One Stop employees who share this concern, many of whom have dedicated years of service with no equivalency in remuneration when compared to Tesco employees.

To put this into perspective, it's worth noting that the average hourly pay at Tesco is around 20% higher than at One Stop (“Tesco and Booker Merger Inquiry - Worker Survey Report Summary”, Unite the Union, 2017). Considering Tesco owns One Stop, this discrepancy is neither justified nor fair. The labor we pour into our jobs is not dissimilar to that of Tesco employees, thus equitable pay should be a standard practice across all subsidiaries of a parent company.

Therefore, I urge for a reevaluation of the pay structure within not only One Stop but Tesco as well. The disparity in wages is a violation of the principles of fairness and equal work for equal pay. I call on Tesco and its executives to rectify this situation, to bring equity in pay to all of its employees irrespective of where they work in the company's family. Please support us in our fight for fair remuneration. Your signatures can help make this much-needed change possible. Sign the petition.
