Equalize Access to School Activities for Homeschooled Children in New Jersey

The Issue

As a citizen of New Jersey and a parent who has opted to homeschool for over nine years, I am confronting a long-standing issue that discriminates against homeschooled children in the state. Homeschooled children, like mine, are denied access to certain school programs, such as sports, despite our obligatory payment of school taxes. My children have been actively involved in sports such as little league baseball. However, once they reach high school, their opportunities to participate in sports, due to them not being enrolled in the public school system, are effectively nullified.

In New Jersey, taxpayers are obligated to contribute to a public school system that does not provide equitable opportunities for all children. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, New Jersey homeowners pay some of the highest property taxes nationwide, a significant portion of which supports public education. Yet, current law does not grant equal rights to homeschooled children for participation in school activities, despite their parents' financial contributions.

In the interest of fairness, equality, and upholding the civic spirit, we cannot overlook this discrepancy. We call upon the New Jersey Department of Education and relevant legislative bodies to revisit the policies that discriminate against homeschooled children. We insist that our children should be granted the same opportunities as other children whose education is funded by school taxes paid by their parents. This change will not only benefit homeschoolers but make our public school system more inclusive and fairer.

Let's stand together for fair opportunities for all children, regardless of their educational choice. Sign this petition to support equal rights and opportunities for homeschooled children in New Jersey.
