Equal Rights and Legal Recognition for LGBTQIA+ People in India
Equal Rights and Legal Recognition for LGBTQIA+ People in India
The Issue
Millions of LGBTQIA+ people in India continue to face discrimination and unequal treatment. Same-sex couples cannot marry, many families cannot adopt equally, and transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and other gender-diverse people often face unnecessary barriers when changing their legal documents or accessing essential services.
Many LGBTQIA+ people also experience discrimination in education, employment, healthcare, housing, banking, and public spaces. Everyone deserves equal protection under the law, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
