Equal Recognition of Early Graduates as Honor Students
Equal Recognition of Early Graduates as Honor Students
The Issue
The issue is that early graduates who meet or exceed the established academic criteria for honor recognition are being excluded solely due to their decision to graduate ahead of schedule. Honor status is traditionally based on measurable academic standards such as GPA, course rigor, and overall academic performance. However, in this situation, eligibility is being determined by graduation timing rather than academic merit.
This creates an inconsistency in how achievement is recognized. If two students meet the same GPA and coursework requirements, but one is denied recognition simply because they completed their requirements earlier, then the standard for honors is no longer based purely on academic excellence. Recognition should reflect demonstrated achievement, not the length of time spent completing requirements.
By excluding early graduates, the policy unintentionally diminishes the effort, planning, and discipline required to accelerate one’s education while maintaining high academic performance. The concern is not about special treatment, but about equal evaluation under the same academic standards.
