Even in 2013, after years of progress and national legislation like the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the wage gap still exists. Women make up 50% of the workforce, yet on average for every one dollar that a working Vermont man makes, a working Vermont woman makes 84 cents. That is unacceptable. We’re better than that.
Yesterday, the Vermont State House passed H.99. By a 115 to 22 vote, H.99, a bill that ensures equal pay for women, was passed and will go to the Senate next. We thank our legislators for for putting their votes behind this critical issue.
By signing this petition, you are joining the voices of Vermonters in calling out for long overdue change. Stand with Vermont’s working women and add your name today.
-Reduce the income gap between men and women by clarifying Vermont’s unequal pay laws
-Require equal pay certification by state contractors
-Give women the tools they need to address pay discrepancies without fear of retaliation
We thank Democratic legislators for supporting this bill and look forward to seeing Vermont make this leap forward.
