Equal Parenting in Tennessee

This petition had 1,486 supporters

Unfortunately, in today's society, having children during marriage is becoming less and less common. Custody laws in Tennessee need to be updated to fulfill the needs of our children. Child support standards need to be updated and fair. If it requires 2 to equally make a child, it requires 2 to equally raise a child. Countless studies show that equal parenting is what's best for children. Do I agree that every parent deserves 50/50? No... Of course, there are certain circumstances where a parent isn't fit to raise a child. But, more times than not, good parents are being torn from their child's life just because of outdated laws. Another goal within this petition is to protect parents who raise a non-biological child for the majority of their life, end up parting ways up with the custodial parent, and that parent decides you're no longer the father, just to be vindictive. Stepping up and raising a child who is not yours because someone else chose not to is one of the most selfless things a man can do. That child is left wondering what went wrong and where you are. Most times, within a matter of weeks, they're introduced to a new man. This is NOT healthy for children. It creates insecurities and an unstable home. Children should come first and should not be used as pawns or weapons. Fathers shouldn't have to live paycheck to paycheck and spend years of their lives fighting in order to see their children. It shouldn't be a FIGHT to be an equal parent. We must update our state laws to allow for a quick and simple road to equal parenting. It's time Tennessee gets on board with EQUAL PARENTING!!
