I believe that Darwin Project has had a lot of ups and downs from the time that it was released fully at Version 1.0, but as we sit here in October 2020 we are just waiting for this wonderful game to be shut down and not even have it be playable by January of 2021. The developers of Scavenger studio have made it clear that they do not want to allocate funds to this IP anymore and that they want to start on a new one that as of now has been unannounced. I, myself with a handful of people that still play the game believe that there is someway that a company such as Epic Games behind Fortnite and Spellbreak along with Origin who is behind Apex Legends both have the power to turn a game like Darwin Project around.
I have been playing Darwin Project since the release of the full version back at the beginning of 2020 and I saw flaws with the game, but still believed that there was hope for the game to achieve greatness among the likes of battle royale games like it such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Back when COVID-19 struck and everyone was stuck with being at home I spent a lot of time playing Darwin Project. I got around 100 hours in the game within a month. In that time I started to see the flaws of the class system, the little bugs here and there and I wondered why these issues weren’t being addressed. At this point the developers went dark on the game and had not updated it since the Duos update on April 7th, 2020. Nobody knew what was happening at the time until May, 13th 2020 when they announced that there would be no more support to this game.
Since then, the overall morale went down and more and more people stopped playing the game. We sit here for about 3 months until the game’s servers get shut down for good. I along with a lot of people love this game and do not want to see it’s end. I blame the downfall of the game on the devs and the bad marketing that went into the game, but just because the devs messed up doesn’t mean a game that is good at it’s core should die. This game is being held back by the lack of funds. With a new company/dev team we could see new things such as more director content, balances to the classes and more of a meta being formed, different skins, a ranked mode to set apart the casual audience and the competitive one along with different weekly or monthly modes that could be set on rotation.
In conclusion, I believe this game has the potential for a comeback and I, along with a good amount of people want nothing more but to see this game shine. This game once again has had it’s ups and downs, but I believe that Epic Games or Origin would be a great parent company for this game. Sign the petition if you agree.
