STOP UNNECESSARY IDLING ENGINES IN HONG KONG

The Issue

Every day we experience long lines of tour operator coaches visiting the beachside and Tin Hau Temple in Repulse Bay/HK South District.

From morning to sunset, these buses will park along Repulse Bay Beach Road for fractions of hours from 20-40 minutes each and vast majority of these, if not all, will have engines on throughout the duration of the stay and most of the time with nobody on board, including the driver. When found onboard we have approached the driver asking to switch off the engine as no passengers were waiting on the bus and we have been regularly ignored.

Our specific area is a residential area and a very popular and crowded recreational area for children and families, with beaches, schools and outdoor playgrounds.

We have opened a complaint with the authority in charge, the Environmental Protection Department in charge (tel. +852 2838 3111), called again to receive an update and we are still awaiting for follow up which we have no doubt we will receive very soon.

In the meantime please help signing and promoting this petition to show how much we are worried and how much this unnecessary practice and lack of ordinance enforcement is affecting our rights and our family's health in the specific area and everywhere else in Hong Kong.

You can refer to the following link for more details on the law and exemptions provided.

It's time to stop unnecessary idling engines, contain air pollution, heat and noise nuisances and wastes of fuel and all health consequences.

Thank you for your interest and support.
