Plastic is in our everyday life from holding water and food to the toys children play with. Everyone loves plastic because it makes our lives easier but have you ever stopped and wondered what plastic actually does to the environment? Well most people really don't think about it when they recycle or throw plastic out because once we put plastic in the garbage its "out of site, out of mind." The thing is plastic is decimating the environment and the creatures that live in it. The reason why is plastic takes hundreds of years just to breakdown but it never fully decomposes. This means when animals consume the plastic they are unable to digest it and it gets stuck in their body which will ultimately kill them. Animals are not the only ones that are affected by plastics, us humans are also infected because of the chemicals that are in the plastic. Have you ever left your water bottle in the car on a hot day? Then you go back to your car and take a sip of that water. It taste funny doesn't. That's because the toxic chemicals that was in the plastic seeped into the water. These chemicals are known to affect humans in many ways like giving us cancer, having birth defects, getting skin diseases and much more. You're probably wondering right now "Why do we still use plastics if there are so many negatives to it?" I will tell you the reason the why and that is because these big corporations that are producing plastic only care about making money. They make so much money off of plastic because it is cheap and easy to manufacture. 

There is way to help the environment and the creatures that live in and that is to reduce the use and production of plastics in our everyday lives. If everyone is able to do that it might just give us enough time to find an alternative to plastic, one that is biodegradable and safe for the environment. Some ways that we can reduce plastic is by using less single-use plastic items like bags and bottles. Also by banning together and having big corporations reduce the amount of plastic that is produced.
