Environmental Protection

Environmental Protection
The Issue
One person that has contributed much to the field of environmental protection exceeds counting since over ages there are many individual souls who have shaped our earth. Here are just some of the key people to be aware aboohn Muir (1838-1914): Naturalist and writer, he was one of the early advocates for preservation of wild lands in the United States leading to such activities as the creation in 1890 of Yosemite National Park.Silent Spring by Rachel Carson (1907-1964) — American marine biologist and author whose groundbreaking book Silent Spring detailed the disastrous effects of pesticides, inspiring a new era in environmental protection.Wangari Maathai (1940-2011): Kenyan environmentalist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who established the Green Belt Movement that planted over 51 million trees to help reduce it, empower women.Al Gore (born 1948) – The former US VP and Nobel laureate on climate change awareness doesn't need any introduction.Greta Thunberg (b. 2003): Swedish climate activist that has motivated millions of young people to push for urgency on the climate crisis with her school strikes and global protests.Jane Goodall (1934 to present): A British primatologist and anthropologist, noted for her 55-year study of social and familial interactions among wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National.
Climate change has likely led to the decline of some of Scotland's mountain plants, according to new research.Scientists said many of the species relied on snow cover remaining high on hills until late spring and even summer to ensure a moist environment. They also said plants that thrived on lower ground in warmer conditions were spreading to mountain habitats.Species found to be in decline include snow pearlwort, alpine lady-fern and alpine speedwell. The research by the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) has taken 20 years to complete and has been published in the new Plant Atlas.Data used to produce the report included more than three million plant records of 2,555 species collected by hundreds of botanists across Scotland.
Opportunity for Innovation: Addressing climate change presents a unique opportunity for innovation and economic growth. Investing in clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and green infrastructure can create jobs and stimulate economic development.
In short, the time to act on environmental protection is now. The longer we wait, the more difficult and costly it will become. We have the knowledge, technology, and resources to make a difference. Let’s seize this opportunity and build a sustainable future for all.
