Stop Killing Nilgai

Stop Killing Nilgai
The Issue
It is a confusing world. On one hand we pride of sending space shuttles in search of new life, plant trees to save our dying Earth and on the other end we push our own valuable resources into a never ending darkness. We kill, slaughter and misuse the very first creation of God – the animals! But do we have the rights to wipe the face of these innocent creatures just for our own benefits? The answer is yet to be established.
Recently there has been uproar about the Nilgai slaughter in Bihar which was sanctioned through the Central Government. Over 200 nilgai shoot in just 6 days. Although there was an opposition from Meneka Gandhi and other supporters, permission was granted for killing certain wild animals which posed threat to human habitat and farming.
Affect
Nilgais were gunned down and left to perish ruthlessly. Young ones starved to death and the ones which escaped with a wound slowly died a painful death with infection and dehydration. The slaughtering also opened doors to illegal hunting and smuggling of their flesh, teeth and other body parts.
Additionally, it will change the food chain of our eco-system that will be very dangerous and result can be seen in 10 to 15 years.
But did all these inhuman and unplanned action help mankind in any possible way? Slaughtering will only lead to other wild animals encroaching the space, which in turn will lead to a vicious cycle of animal slaughter. With one or more species on the verge of extinction, the entire food chain gets disrupted and affects the climate of the Earth, which is a major concern now and will ultimately leave our planet inhabitable.
Solution
These long term effects are surely not understood by many and thus have led to such massacre. Human beings are supposed to be considerate and think logically. But these acts of mass killing of animals have left many aghast. Will there be ever a solution to this never ending problem? Perhaps yes. Many countries have worked together with the animal rights department to put an end to these tortures by taking an alternative path or by revolting to stop such crime. Farmers have adapted to plant chilli or other repugnant plants around their crop in order to keep the animals away from the field. Other similar practices have also come into notice. A forestation and control in encroaching into jungles by humans will not only save many lives of wild animals, but also save the Earth in the long run.
It is time now to raise the voice and protest. The Animal Welfare Board of India along with other autonomous bodies can very well stop these inhumane acts of killing. The respect and kindness shown towards these amazing creations of God will only bring peace and harmony into this world.
Just because Nilgai can’t go to court, we don’t have right to kill them. Remember we are not alone, we can’t live alone!
