Thank you all so much for supporting our project. Please continue to share the link around to family and friends :)
This project is not just about lynx - it's about the bigger picture of healthy forest ecosystems and increased biodiversity, providing a healthier, more resilient ecosystem and habitat for all forest dwelling species. Have a look at this video where we talk about the impacts lynx can have on forests - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BqOrnWNJ0U&t=2s&ab_channel=Grizzly
With an estimated 1.5–2 million individuals in the UK, the deer population is believed to be at its highest level for 1000 years. In fact these numbers have doubled since 1999 and continue to grow at astronomical rates.
Overpopulations of deer (and or other herbivores) can have tragic consequences for their environment. But don't just take it from us - the State of Nature Report 2019 reflects that 'increasing deer numbers (both native species such as Roe and non-natives such as Muntjac), have a heightened impact on woodland and its dependent wildlife as they reduce natural regeneration and alter woodland structure through increased grazing and browsing'
Reintroducing lynx into areas with high deer population would reduce what is called the 'browsing pressure' on the forest floor. The deer would be forced to move around more, allowing the forest to naturally regenerate and create a healthier and more stable habitat for the rest of the species which call the forest home. This is vital if we want our ecosystems to be restored to their natural, beautiful state.
It is possible, and reintroducing lynx is one step along that long road. Once again, thank you for the support, it means so much.
