Entry Exit through Pasakha Bhutan.

The Issue

Jaigaon is a small town under Kalchini block of Alipurdaur District in West Bengal and is located near the border city of Phuentsholing Bhutan. Jaigaon is currently overburdened with traffic congestion due to heavy vehicles plying through Jaigaon with edible, Industrial goods and other general merchandise. There is one main entry and exit point into the City of Phuentsholing Bhutan while another entry exit point is located at the Pasakha Industrial Area in Bhutan which is next to a small village called Khokla Busty in the Indian part. Through this entry exit point only commercial vehicles are allowed entry exit due to which the traffic congestion has increased twice fold since the re-opening of the border after the Pandemic. If private vehicles too are allowed through this existing entry exit point? Then many vehicles entering or exiting Bhutan wouldn’t have to commute through Jaigaon town. This could help address the traffic congestion to a great extent. Many private vehicles coming from India or other border districts of Bhutan and travelling to places like Thimphu Paro etc could easily take the Asian Highway No 48 and enter into Bhutan without having to commute through the crowded small town streets of Jaigaon. Furthermore, before the pandemic the small village of Khokla Busty uses to hold weekly shopping fairs at the Khokla Busty wherein all Bhutanese people of Pasakha Industrial Estate used to shop regularly thereby providing financial support to these small traders. However due to this area now being closed for general public entry exit, these weekly market fares has completely shut down creating serious financial set backs to these poor traders. Therefore, to support these low income groups of artisans and vegetable vendors and general traders and also to smoothen the dangerously overburdened traffic condition of Jaigaon which has almost brought Jaigaon to a standstill can be resolved. We request concerned authorities including the SSB (Shasastra Seema Bal) of India as well as the authorities of Bhutan to take this matter on top priority and allow movement of people and private vehicles through Pasakha Entry Exit gates as per existing entry exit prerequisite norms.
