Utah County Fair: Stop Pig Wrestling at the Utah County Fair

The Issue

This is animal cruelty! Wrestling is a two person sport, not humans and animals. Wrestling is done voluntarily. The pigs are not given a choice. They are body slammed, jumped on, kicked at, and yelled at. Pigs are extremely
intelligent and experience the same range of emotions as humans.
People need to spend some time with a pig and observe
how smart they are. They feel fear, pain, grief, separation, and even humor.
Most people wouldn’t dream of doing this to a dog and yet here are these
wonderful animals that are as smart as a dog and experience the same emotions!
This isn't family entertainment, it teaches animal cruelty and that being a
bully is acceptable. Shame on anyone who thinks this is fun or funny. These pigs are terrified and there are plenty of ways to be entertained without animal abuse. Would anyone question for a second this was abusive if the victim were a dog instead of a pig?
Each year, the Animal Legal Defense Fund publishes a list ranking
U.S. states in order of how their animal protection laws are. Utah was ranked 47th in the country. The Humane Society has Utah ranked at 44th
place in 2014. We can and need to do better. Stop the barbaric event of pig
wrestling at the Utah County Fair.
