The Issue

The Antelope Valley Resource Center (AVRC) means everything to me and my family. As someone who has spent countless hours nurturing and supporting the community here, the thought of losing this invaluable institution is not just a professional setback—it's a personal blow. I do not want to lose my job. More importantly, I care deeply about my staff, who are dedicated individuals that do not deserve to face unemployment overnight. But, the personal stakes extend beyond me; three of my children attend the AVRC. My oldest is on the brink of completing her educational journey as a senior next year at this very center, making the AVRC an integral part of our family's life.

Our community stands at a crossroads where transparency, communication, respect, and collaboration between the upper administration and lower-level management, students, and families at Gorman Learning Center must be prioritized to ensure the AVRC's future. Without clear communication, families like ours are left uncertain and anxious about what the future holds for our children's education.

Evidence suggests schools that foster collaboration between all stakeholders see higher performance and satisfaction. A report by the National Education Association (NEA) highlights the positive outcomes linked to engaging various factions within a school community, noting improvements in student well-being and academic results. We must adopt these collaborative practices here in Lancaster, CA, to preserve what we hold dear.

I propose detailed monthly meetings involving not only the administration but also staff and families of AVRC students. Open forums should be established to discuss challenges and develop comprehensive solutions together. By establishing committees that represent teachers, staff, parents, and students alike, Gorman Learning Center can ensure everyone’s voice is heard and respected.

Let's put pressure on the decision-makers to rethink their approach. Our children’s education and our community's well-being are at stake. We need your support to bring about transformative change and safeguard the future of the AVRC.

Please sign this petition to demand more transparency, communication, and collaboration to protect our beloved Antelope Valley Resource Center.
