I've been a victim of bullying at school and it feels like every day is a battle I have to face alone. The system that's meant to protect students like me, too often sides with bullies, leaving us feeling helpless and unprotected. Bullying goes beyond physical attacks; it's emotional, relentless, and can happen in the classroom, the hallways, and even online.

In many cases, teachers and school officials either fail to recognize the signs of bullying or inadvertently take the bully's side, further victimizing those who are already vulnerable. This is a systemic issue that demands immediate attention and action, as countless students suffer in silence, terrified to go to a place that should be safe and nurturing.

Schools should implement comprehensive training programs for teachers and staff to identify and properly handle bullying situations. Teachers need to be trained to support victims effectively and to be discerning enough to recognize when a bully may also need help due to potential underlying issues such as domestic abuse.

Schools must enforce zero-tolerance policies towards bullying, with clear consequences that discourage such behavior. Moreover, there should be an anonymous reporting system in place, where students can safely report bullying incidents without fear of retribution.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, one out of every five students reports being bullied. This statistic is a wake-up call that necessitates a change in school policy and culture towards bullying. We need to make our educational institutions places of safety, support, and growth for all students.
