Ensure safe bike lanes for cyclists and children in Las Vegas

Ensure safe bike lanes for cyclists and children in Las Vegas
The Issue
As parents in North Las Vegas, we find ourselves deeply troubled and heartbroken by the untimely death of a 12-year-old girl on October 6, 2025. She was fatally struck while riding in a marked bike lane near Tropical Parkway and North Emerald Eagle Street, traveling alongside a school bus. These painted lines were meant to offer protection, to ensure her safety as she rode her bicycle, yet they failed tragically.
Every child deserves safe passage on our roads—a promise that was not fulfilled for one child. This loss resonates with all parents and community members who strive to protect our children and ensure their well-being. We cannot let this happen again. It is vital that the City of North Las Vegas, the surrounding Centennial neighborhoods, Clark County Public Works, and the School District take decisive and immediate actions to enhance the safety of our bike lanes.
We ask for the installation of physical barriers that will make marked bike lanes safe havens for cyclists, especially vulnerable children on their way to and from school. Comprehensive safety audits and updated infrastructures are necessary to prevent any further heartache in our community.
Let us commit to implementing complete streets principles that integrate pedestrian and cycling paths safely alongside motor vehicle traffic. This action will not only safeguard our children but will promote healthier and more sustainable modes of transport in our city.
Stand with us in honoring the memory of the child we lost all too soon. Help us push for change that protects every young life. Reach out to the City of North Las Vegas officials, Clark County Public Works, and the School District to demand urgent implementation of these protective measures.
Please sign our petition to ensure no other family endures such a loss and that our community upholds its duty to our children.
