My son Derrick tragically passed away in a preventable sleep-related accident. I am personally compelled to fight against accidental infant loss and one factor of this is ensuring that all travel accommodations provide safe and clean cribs for babies. Many establishments such as hotels, motels, Airbnb, resorts, and cruises claim to have cribs available. However, often they are broken, outdated, or not clean. This not only risks the health of our little ones but also can lead to disastrous consequences. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 3,500 babies in the U.S. die suddenly and unexpectedly every year while sleeping, often due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or accidental deaths (SUID) from suffocation or strangulation. Ensure babies are offered quality cribs that meet safety standards and undergo regular checks and cleanings. Let us demand that travel accommodations prioritize the safety of our children.
