Ensure political parties follow communication laws in Australia

Ensure political parties follow communication laws in Australia
The issue
I have received countless unwanted text messages and emails from political entities like the Trumpet of Patriot and the Liberal Party of Australia. Frustration mounts as I find no option to opt out of these intrusive communications.
Australia's businesses are required to adhere to strict guidelines laid down by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regarding unsolicited communications. They face penalties if they breach these rules, ensuring consumer protection against unwanted spam. Nevertheless, political parties aren't bound by similar regulations, creating a loophole that compromises our privacy.
This isn't just an inconvenience—it's a breach of our right to privacy. Just as businesses must respect consumer preferences, political parties should also be held accountable for spam texts and emails. They should adhere to laws set forth by ACMA, and face penalties if they disregard consumer preferences, aligning them to the standards required for businesses.
A fair and democratic society ensures that all entities, including political parties, respect the rights and privacy of individuals. It’s time we demand that our lawmakers address this critical gap in the existing regulations and bring political parties under the purview of ACMA.
Sign my petition to call on the Australian Government and relevant authorities to mandate that political entities comply with the same anti-spam laws as businesses. Let’s work together to ensure our personal data is respected and our right to privacy upheld.
