Ensure Mental Health Treatment and Grant Release for Jonathan Garcia

Ensure Mental Health Treatment and Grant Release for Jonathan Garcia
The Issue
We urgently seek your support in advocating for the mental health treatment and release of Jonathan Garcia, CDCR AN0345, who is currently incarcerated within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Jonathan's case highlights the critical need for comprehensive mental health care and a compassionate approach within our correctional facilities.
Jonathan's mental health has rapidly deteriorated during his time in prison, as he has been deprived of adequate intervention and support. For years, he has been silently suffering, unable to access the necessary care. Recently, his sister Sandra discovered the severity of his condition when his bunkmates reached out to her for help.
Despite the intervention of an organization advocating for disabled individuals in jail, Jonathan's mental health needs were neglected for an extended period. Fortunately, his relocation to the Department of State Hospital in Atascadero provided him with much-needed social support, enabling his sister to maintain contact with him. However, the most recent decision to send him back to prison undermines the progress made in his mental health treatment. We cannot allow him to be confined within an environment that fails to adequately address his mental health needs.
One example of the risk he is at is a distressing incident surrounding a $30,000 trust fund linked to his prison account. While cognitively incapable of managing his own finances, the entirety of that sum vanished. His sister's suspicion is that while he had some supportive cellmates, others likely took advantage of him financially without his knowledge, or coerced him into depleting his funds entirely. Due to his compromised mental capacity, Jonathan has no recollection of where his trust fund money went, which amplifies her concerns.
We call upon Governor Gavin Newsom to intervene in Jonathan's case, prioritize his mental health treatment, and grant him the opportunity for release. Join us in urging Governor Newsom to exercise clemency and advocate for Jonathan's well-being within our correctional system.
Sign our petition demanding the release of Jonathan Garcia, based on the urgent need for proper mental health treatment and the prevention of further harm. Together, we can ensure that Jonathan receives the care he deserves and that the system acknowledges the significance of mental health in rehabilitation.
Help us amplify this campaign by using the hashtag #ReleaseForJonathan. Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to sign the petition and raise awareness about the vital importance of mental health treatment and compassionate release in our correctional facilities.
Reach out to Governor Gavin Newsom's office and express your concerns regarding the inadequate mental health care within the correctional system and, emphasize the necessity of addressing Jonathan's case promptly.
