The Issue

I was married to this violent man. He abused me physically, held me emotionally hostage in the relationship by threatening my children, my friends, and even went as far as threatening to burn my family out of their house. After enduring years of terror, I finally found the strength to leave. Unfortunately, my ordeal foreshadowed an even graver tragedy. He began dating a close friend of mine. When she tried to escape the grip of his violence, she was not as fortunate. This violent man murdered her and concealed her body. It took five long years to uncover the truth.

Now, after 13 years, this violent offender is up for parole. Our pain is resurfaced, and justice feels compromised. In Lake Ozark, MO, and across our nation, victims and their families deserve justice and protection. This petition aims to urge the parole board and legal system to ensure that violent offenders, especially those who take a life, remain behind bars.

Statistics from the Bureau of Justice Statistics have shown that upon release, recidivism rates for violent offenders are alarmingly high. Public safety should be paramount. Allowing such individuals back into society not only undermines the safety of our community but also disrespects the memory of those who lost their lives and the pain their loved ones endure.

We propose strict non-parole policies for violent criminals who take a life. Our community deserves better protection, and our legal system needs to uphold justice for victims. It's time for reform to prevent further tragedies and ensure peace for grieving families.

Stand with us in demanding change. Keep those who take lives behind bars indefinitely. Protect our community. Protect our loved ones. Urge the parole board to deny parole to violent offenders like the one who took my friend's life.

Sign this petition to make Lake Ozark a safer place for all.
