Ensure Inclusivity in Youth Cheerleading Teams

Ensure Inclusivity in Youth Cheerleading Teams
The Issue
At just 13 years old, my daughter recently faced rejection from our community's cheerleading team. This experience has left her disheartened and questioning her own worth. It pains me to see a space that should encourage growth and camaraderie, instead fostering feelings of inadequacy.
This cheerleading team is not part of a high-stakes, competitive environment. It is a community-based group where the focus should be on enjoyment and fun, fostering teamwork and friendship among young girls. Each child, regardless of skill level, deserves the chance to participate, learn, and grow.
The exclusion of children based on skill in such community teams sends a disheartening message. It puts unnecessary pressure on children to "prove" themselves. We risk losing sight of vital values—like inclusivity, support, and personal development.
Cheerleading, like other youth sports, provides essential opportunities for physical activity, self-expression, and social interaction. The lessons these young individuals learn in these spaces can shape their confidence, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills throughout their lives.
This petition calls on our community leaders and organizers of youth sports programs to reassess the selection criteria for our community cheerleading teams. We urge them to align more closely with values that promote inclusivity and growth for all members. We propose solutions such as offering skills clinics to help improve abilities, or establishing different groups based on interest where everyone has a chance to cheer.
Signing this petition is an important step towards ensuring that all children, regardless of initial skill level, feel included and valued in our community programs. Let's build a culture where every child has the chance to thrive. Please join us by signing this petition to make youth cheerleading a more inclusive and supportive environment for all .
I would like to petition for all of the girls who have been cut on our community squad. I cannot name the squad personally, but to be invited to perform and Compete after NBYFC comp
