The Issue
Hello,
I have asked my local MP to help me. Sarah Russel and Zach, her caseworker, have been amazing.
I am 60. I have worked full time since I was 18. I have paid my full stamp and was told that at 67, I would get my full state pension. Last year, in March 2025, I was diagnosed with stage 4A high-grade serous ovarian cancer. It has spread to my lung, liver, small bowel, and I have fluid gathering in my lung lining. An indwelling pleural catheter is in place to allow the fluid to be drained weekly.
Facing such a serious illness has made me reevaluate my life's priorities, and I believe that accessing my state pension now would provide immense relief and financial security during this challenging time. This would ensure that I spend my remaining days without the additional stress of financial constraints, allowing me to focus on my health and peace of mind.
When a person is diagnosed with a terminal illness and has paid into the system through decades of hard work, the system should respond with compassion and immediacy. It is a call to action not just for me, but for all who find themselves in a similar position, where time becomes the most precious commodity.
Immediate access to full state pension for those with terminal illnesses should be a right, providing dignity, respect, and a sense of security. According to the World Health Organization, accessibility and equitable healthcare, including financial aid, are fundamental human rights during terminal illness care.
Please sign my petition to urge policymakers to make this change, supporting terminally ill individuals who have dedicated their lives to contributing to society. Let us honor their contributions by ensuring they can live out their days with dignity and security. Sign now to make a difference in countless lives.
