Ensure free bus travel for women in Tamil Nadu

Ensure free bus travel for women in Tamil Nadu

The Issue

I am a 17-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu, and I'm raising my voice against the violation of public transportation rules in our state. According to government regulations, all public transport buses in Tamil Nadu should be free for women. However, my recent experiences indicate that these rules are not being uniformly enforced.

The conductors on some buses, specifically on the route involving the bus with registration number AMJ 1071, have been charging women Rs. 15 per ticket for a single stop. This completely contradicts the orders from the Chief Minister that categorically state that bus travel for women is free. When my friend and I questioned this unfair practice, we were mistreated and spoken to rudely by the conductors.

This issue is not only about the nominal fare we were wrongfully charged but also about the disrespectful manner in which we were treated when we stood up for our rights. If young women like us are facing such discrimination and rudeness, it diminishes the very purpose of the government's initiative aimed at empowering women through free transportation.

It is imperative that strict action is taken against individuals and buses violating these rules to ensure that women can travel freely and safely across Tamil Nadu without fear of mistreatment or financial burden.

I urge the Honourable Chief Minister and relevant authorities to investigate these incidents thoroughly and enforce the rule strictly across all public transport. By addressing this matter urgently, we can ensure that women in Tamil Nadu receive the benefits that were promised, fostering an environment of respect and equality.

Please sign this petition to call for an immediate and stringent investigation and action against those who deny women their rightful access to free public transportation. Your support can make a difference in enforcing the rights promised to every woman in Tamil Nadu.
