Ensure Fair Pay for DoorDash Drivers

The Issue

As a committed DoorDash driver, I can attest to the challenges we face daily. We work tirelessly to deliver food quickly and safely, yet our compensation does not reflect the costs and efforts required to do so. Currently, DoorDash drivers are not reimbursed for the gas or mileage we use, and we don’t even come close to averaging minimum wage after expenses.

The lack of mileage reimbursement is particularly concerning. The IRS standard mileage rate in 2019 was 58 cents per mile, but DoorDash drivers receive no reimbursement for the miles we drive. This is a significant gap, as many of us end up covering the wear and tear on our vehicles out of our own pockets. On top of that, we’re not compensated for the time we spend waiting for orders, and during inactive periods (such as waiting at a store or driving back to a busy area), we’re not paid at all.

Despite working long hours, the pay we receive often falls well below the minimum wage once we account for gas, maintenance, and the time spent waiting between orders. We don’t even receive reimbursement for the fuel costs we incur while driving miles to pick up and deliver orders.

We are asking DoorDash to make real change. This means:

• Paying drivers a mileage reimbursement that aligns with the IRS standard rate.

• Ensuring base pay is fair and takes into account the actual costs drivers incur.

• Guaranteeing that drivers receive 100% of the tips given by customers. This is not just about fair pay—it’s about recognizing the essential work that drivers do to make sure food gets to people’s doors safely and promptly. It’s time for DoorDash to step up and fairly compensate its drivers for all the time, effort, and expenses we endure.

By signing this petition, you are supporting drivers who are working hard to get you your food while striving for fair compensation. Stand with us and demand DoorDash change its pay policies today.
