The Issue

Growing up, I encountered an experience that still resonates with me deeply. A boy in my grade dismissed my dreams as unrealistic, suggesting I should lower my aspirations to something more suitable for my gender, like teaching or motherhood. This interaction hurt me profoundly and fueled my determination to advocate for the equal respect and honour of all girls and women. This is not just my story; it's a narrative shared by countless others who face similar dismissals daily.

Women and girls continue to encounter discrimination and gender bias in various aspects of life including education, workplace, and even at home. Statistics from UN Women reveal that nearly 2.7 billion women around the world are legally restricted from having the same career choices as men. Further, a report by the International Labour Organization highlights a persistent gender pay gap of 20% globally. Such disparities underscore the need for a societal shift in how we perceive and respect women.

We can no longer allow outdated stereotypes to dictate a woman's worth or potential. To foster real change, we must implement comprehensive educational programs that promote gender equality from a young age. Schools should be obligated to include gender studies in their curriculum, encouraging both young men and women to challenge stereotypes and embrace diverse aspirations. Moreover, workplaces must be held accountable to ensure equal opportunities and treatment for all genders. Policies that promote pay transparency, mentorship programs for women, and strict measures against discrimination are essential in achieving this objective.

One powerful action you can take is to sign this petition. By doing so, you are voicing your support for a society where women and girls are valued equally and can pursue their dreams unfettered by gender bias. Together, we can pave the way for future generations to live in a world where respect and honour know no gender boundaries. Please sign the petition and join the movement towards real and lasting equality.

I always have dreamed of being a lawyer, helping cases like one of my friends and so many others where girls and women are treated like a lower being, if not a being at all. Being a mother or a teacher is not all we can do. Think of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, defied all odds and became a lawyer in a group of men, and she is still recognized today.
